About
As an acidic compost, with a pH of between four and five, ericaceous compost is the perfect aid for growing a large number of plants, principally those in the Ericaceae family. These plants do not grow well in alkaline or lime-rich soil and are usually ones that have evolved from woodland, mountainside or heathland environments.
Ericaceous compost has traditionally been made using peat, but today it is widely recognised that extracting fresh peat can cause substantial damage to wildlife habitats, as well as being an agent of climate change and increasing the potential for local flooding.
So our ericaceous compost is 100% peat free and can be used for many applications in the garden, including potting on, planting out or even as a growing bag.
Plants that are ideal for growing in ericaceous compost include: rhododendrons, hydrangeas, gardenia, blueberries, raspberries, magnolia, viburnum and many more.
